William C. Knox (ca. 1829 – after 1880) was a pioneering stoneware potter active in Texas during the mid‑19th century, known for producing distinctive vessels in the Mid‑Brazos region of the state.
Early Career and Locations
Knox began pottery work in Hempstead, Waller County around 1859–1860, continuing there until about 1865. In 1870, he moved to Oletha, Limestone County, where he established a pottery shop. This relocation followed the purchase of equipment from pioneer potter Alberry Johnson.
Artistic Style and Production
Knox’s work is characterized by:
