  • Biography

Thomas " Tom " Brown (1859-1916) San Antonio, Fort Worth Artist

Thomas Brown was a native of Providence, Rhode Island.  He moved to Ft. Worth, for health reasons, where he was engaged in the jewelry business.  He moved to San Antonio in 1889.  He worked as a sales for a jewelry retailer, and participated in civic activities, including the annual Fiesta San Antonio.  He was a self-taught painter incorporating the New England characteristics of fog and clouds into his paintings.  Brown died at his home after suffering a stroke at a San Antonio railroad depot.  He was buried beside his wife in Fort Worth.
