Annie Nelson Milam (Mrs. Robert L. Milam). 1870-1934. Kaufman, Fort Worth, Dallas, El Paso, Ennis. Landscape painter.
Born and educated in Homer, Louisiana, Milam studied art at Mt. Lebanon University, Bienville Parish, Louisiana, and at age seventeen became an art instructor there. She studied under Hans Kunz-Meyer in Dallas (1909), at the Art Students League of New York (1913), and under John Fabian Carlson. She was a Kaufman resident (1911), then moved to Fort Worth (1912) and later Dallas (1916-17) before returning to Fort Worth for a short time (1918-19). In 1920 Milam moved to Canutillo, near El Paso, and painted into the 1930s when health reasons compelled her to give up painting in oils. She then turned to small landscapes in pastel and watercolor. Milam died in Ennis.
