    Ursula Lauderdale (1872-1968)

(1872-1968).  Dallas, Waxahachie, San Antonio, Painter, Designer, Wood-Carver, Teacher, Lecturer. Born In Moberly, Missouri, Lauderdale Was Educated There at St. Mary's Academy and the Goetz Conservatory of Music as well as at The Warren Institute and Texas Wesleyan College, Fort Worth.  In New York She Attended the Sargent School of Dramatic Art, The Art Students League Of New York, and The Metropolitan Arts Studio.  Lauderdale's Instructors Included Michel Jacobs, William Devol, Robert Henri, Maurice Braun, And Frank Reaugh. For Five Years, Lauderdale Taught in a Dallas Art School.  In 1923 She Was Director of Art Exhibits at the Texas-Oklahoma Fair in Wichita Falls.  She Spent the Summer Of 1926 Sketching and Painting In New Mexico Where She Live for Several Weeks At El Porvenir, A Ranch Near the Hermit Mountains.  There She Executed a study titled Indian Wildflowers that was Exhibited in Santa Fe and Dallas.  In The Summer Of 1926 and Again In 1927, She Taught Landscape Painting at the Southwestern Chautauqua, Las Vegas, New Mexico.  In 1928 She Became and Art Instructor at Trinity University, Waxahachie; About 1935 She Moved to San Antonio.  There She Was a Student of Clar Duer at the Witte Memorial Museum Art School.  Lauderdale Died in San Antonio and Was Buried in the City.   Exhibitions:  Annual Texas Artists Exhibition, Fort Worth (1917-18, 1920, 1922-23, 1926, 1928);  Annual Exhibition Of Texas Artists, Dallas Woman's Forum (1917 Prize, 1918, 1920);  Annual Exhibition Of The State Fair Of Texas, Dallas (1920-21, 1925, 1927-28);  Southern States Art League Annual Exhibition (1923);  Southern Painters Exhibition, Grand Central Art Galleries, New York (1925); Texas Artists Exhibition, San Antonio Art League (1926); Southern Artists Exhibition, New York Civic Club (1926);  Annual Allied Arts Exhibition, Dallas (1928-29);  Bernard Galleries, New York (1928);  Annual Exhibition Of The Society Of Independent Artist, New York (1928);  Annual Texas Artists Circuit Exhibition (1929)L  Menger Hotel, San Antonio (1930 One-Woman);  San Antonio Local Artists Annual Exhibition (1931, 1934-35, 1947);  River Art Group, San Antonio (1948-50, 1959);  Women Artists Of Texas 1850-1950, Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum,  Canyon (1993);  Collections:  Stained-Glass Window (Installed In 1917), City Temple, Dallas.
